Say no to Charlie's Soap!

Charlie's Soap and Sportswash are almost the same formula, made by the same people.

Anyways, lots of people recommend Charlie's for cloth diapers. I don't. Here is why:

You have to pre-wash your machine and use something (ie: bleach) to disinfect your dipes every wash?

It can burn your child's bottom..

"Until you have actually experienced the severity of these burns it is hard to imagine it. My children are not sensitive and never had a rash. But when we used sportwash (this was developed by Charlie and sold to to the atsko owner and is the same as charlies with the exception of 1 ingredient) both of my children were severely burned and to this day have scars from the burns."

"I have about 10 costumers in the last year that had children with serious chemical burns from Charlies. I too have seen the photos. Each costumer was given a different reason by the company as to why Charlie's wash didn't work and left the blisters. Some of these moms were told it was a fleece allergy or that that it is their water or their wash routine.... When the mom's switched to a different detergent the rashes went away 100% and they all claimed that their diapers are cleaner. 2 or 3 of these costumers are moms on here."

After responding to a post on a message board about Charlie's, I once received a PM from the owner threatening me for "slandering" him. I responded that slander has to be untrue. My comments about his soap are true and easy to verify on the 'net. I told him that perhaps he should think of a way for his soap to NOT BURN BABIES instead of writing PMs to people like me, who don't want to see babies with burns.

So, don't buy Charlie's Soap! (or Sportswash!)

I use Method laundry detergent, it works great and is eco-friendly. I've used Tide successfully for stripping dipes, it was the only thing that worked!

CDing saga...

CDing is just not going so well for us these days. First I had some problems with my BumGenius repelling. It took me forever to finally get that straightened out (the answer for me was plain old Tide, got all the build up out!), and now those darned BG are too small for my baby! I just sold all her Fuzzi Bunz because those were too small. I have one Pocket Change diaper which is a tiny bit too small. I have one pocket dipe which is meant to fit up to 35 lbs which just fits her (20lbs now). I got those beautiful rainbow serged prefolds and those are too narrow for her! (Well I can JUST get them on with a snappi if I do a bikini twist. But I mean barely!)

I just realized today while I was agonizing over waist and thigh measurements, that I am shopping for a plus-sized baby. And it feels a lot like shopping for her plus-sized mama. Frustrating and annoying!

Thigh measurements from dipe manufacturers are so useless! If they say a dipe goes from 10-13 inches on the thighs, that should work for my babies 12" thighs right? NO. Because at 12" the elastic is all stretched out. What is stretching it out? My baby's delicate and delectably chubby thighs. Which means big red marks, which makes for an unhappy baby and an unhappy baby mama!

I'm going to keep trying to work the just-barely-fitting prefolds and wool as much as I can, but I miss our BG for how they fit under clothes. *sigh* So I wonder if this is a phase... if she has sort of maxed out her chubbiness now and will start to slim out a bit as she starts crawling? Or if the BG are just a lost cause...

Here's a pic in bikini twist prefold with wool shorties...

Bulk...

OK, here is my brand new Little Beetles wool cover with a Little Beetles One dipe underneath...

Super cute, but bulky, can I tell you? Do most people just accept this much bulk with wool? No way could I put clothes on over this!

Woolly wonder...

Does this diaper make my butt look big?

That is a Stacinator Wool Diaper Cover size *small*, which is meant for 10-15 lbs. Well, she is 13lbs now and I do believe that it is big enough that she can wear it until she is 12! It did hold up through a soaking wet fitted dipe from 6am-9:45 this morning, though!

G Diapers...

So in my search for the perfect nighttime diapering solution, I decided to go ahead and give Gdiapers a try. It's pretty easy to find tons of love/hate posts for Gdiapers, and as with anything I'm sure it's an individual thing. But, but, but...

Why didn't anyone tell me that the inside of the cover is plastic pants? UGH.

The piece sticking up is a removable liner. The piece below it is plastic that stays in the whole time. The outside of the cover is adorable, soft jersey knit... but who cares? I don't want my baby in a zip-lock baggie!
